The printed music for “Oddball” is sold as an individual transcription. “Oddball” is an angular composition which reveals both Leo Kottke’s interest in pushing the boundaries of traditional compositional styles and his indomitable fascination with the development of guitar technique. It recently achieved distinction in the world of guitar repertoire by being performed by the Turtle Island String Quartet. But its tight idiomatic fit on the guitar is a joy to behold. It is an aggressive workout for your hands.
Leo Kottke has recorded “Oddball” twice. In 1990 it first appeared on Leo Kottke/That’s What (Private Music, 2068-2-P). Then in 1995 it was included on Leo Kottke/Live (On the Spot, a division of Private Music, 0100582132-2).
