This extraordinary composition has both a soaring melody and a powerful rhythmic drive. It utilizes a substantially new technique for the guitar. This transcription was developed from the audio recording Aerial Boundaries, Windham Hill Records, 1984, WD-1032.
Because of the flamboyant nature of this composition and the frequent occurrence of strums and percussion, this recording was, frankly, difficult to transcribe. You may notice some discrepancies between the recording and the transcription. These reflect either Michael’s current preferences for playing the piece or an attempt to normalize some inconsistencies in the recording. Keep in mind that this tune is not called “Meticulous Type.” It’s hot, and that’s how you should play it.
A fundamental part of its rhythmic persuasiveness comes from the fact that the right hand generally moves in (toward the strings) on the beat and out (away from the strings) on the and of the beat. This concept provides the structure for the rhythm.
