The printed music for “Fase 1” is sold as an individual transcription. This beautiful contemplation harkens back to the music of the impressionist composers. The asymmetric 12/8 meter with its shifting subordinate accent patterns creates the impression of floating. On a technical level, this composition begins as a study in arpeggios. Then, in measures 53-64, the left and right hands play parts which can be thought of as technically independent, although the music lies in their combination. This transcription was developed from performance and interview videotape. It was then modified to correspond as closely as possible with the 2008 audio recording which appeared on the CD Pino Forastiere/Why Not? (CandyRat Records CRRPFCD1).
