“Strange”

Three short pieces on Guitar Music, “Strange,” “Little Shoes,” and “Jib’s Hat,” while never a regular part of Kottke’s performance repertoire, have always beckoned. The illusive quality of the meter in “Strange” is particularly striking. Where is the downbeat? Are those harmonics on the beat or off the beat? With harmonics twinkling in the midst of shifting arpeggios, Kottke takes the concept of “reversing the beat” to the next level.
